
In a press release on its website, Brother announced that it will donate approximately ¥ 5 million ($49,000) to the Japanese Red Cross Society and other organisations in order to help with the relief efforts following a 6.1 magnitude earthquake that struck Yunnan Province, China, on 3 August, reportedly causing the death of nearly 600 people along with extensive destruction.
Likewise, Canon announced in a press release that it will make a donation of RMB 3.2 million ($520,000) towards the relief efforts, adding that "the organisation that will receive this donation is still under consideration. The OEM stated: "We at Canon would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to all those affected by this disaster and our thoughts go out to those suffering in its aftermath".
It added: "While we realize that the road to recovery will be challenging and time-consuming, we hope that the region will soon be able to begin the rebuilding and healing process."
